Research Article

Manuscripts submitted for consideration by the Journal must follow the style given below. The manuscripts should not be submitted simultaneously to any other publication, nor may they have been previously published elsewhere, in English. However, articles that are published previously in another language but updated or improved can be submitted. For such articles, the author(s) will be responsible for seeking the required permission for copyright.

Please note that All Azimuth only publishes original research articles. It does not publish book reviews or other review articles except by commission. We look forward to receiving submissions that offer analytical answers to research questions found in the literature. We are particularly interested in novel theorizing and conceptual articles, not to mention articles that use novel methods or seek to introduce a database or other scholarly repository that can benefit the discipline.  We do not publish descriptive or historical research. Policy-oriented articles are welcome but must provide their insights through an appropriate analytical framework mindful to showcase the necessary theoretical, conceptual, and methodological heft as needed. All publications must take great care to explain their novelty and contribution to their relevant field.

Data Policy:

  • All authors are required to have Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval for research involving human subjects. Please indicate the IRB institution and the report number on your title page.
  • All authors are required to upload all necessary materials, such as data, code, and any other relevant documents or information required to replicate their results, to an online repository.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy:

All Azimuth recognizes the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI), including large language models (LLMs) and other generative or assistive tools, in the research and writing process. AI-driven technologies can support authors by enhancing clarity, facilitating literature exploration, assisting with organization, or accelerating aspects of scholarly work.

As the flagship journal of the Global South, we believe that AI can help scholars overcome the language barriers they often encounter and enable them to present their ideas with greater clarity, thereby fostering a more inclusive and democratic academic publishing environment.

However, AI cannot replace the human creativity, critical judgment, and ethical responsibility that lie at the core of rigorous academic research.

The following outlines our AI policy for authors:

    Assistive vs. Generative AI

Tools that provide limited assistance, such as grammar correction, language polishing, or structural suggestions, are considered assistive AI. Their use does not require explicit disclosure. However, authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their submission.

Tools capable of producing content, including text, references, images, code, or data, are considered generative AI. Any use of generative AI must be clearly disclosed at submission. Authors must identify which tool or model was used, the version number if applicable, and the purpose of its use. This disclosure should appear in the Methods or Acknowledgments section.

    Responsibilities of Authors

Authors using AI tools must ensure full human oversight throughout the research and writing process. Specifically, authors are responsible for:

  • Verification: All AI-generated content must be carefully reviewed for accuracy, validity, and completeness. Authors must check that citations exist, that claims are correct, and that no fabricated information is included.
  • Originality: Authors must ensure that their work does not unintentionally reproduce text or ideas generated from other sources through AI tools. All potential plagiarism risks must be checked and mitigated.
  • Authenticity: AI outputs must be thoroughly edited and integrated so that the final manuscript reflects the authors’ own analysis, interpretation, and scholarly contribution.
  • Compliance: Authors must ensure that using AI tools does not violate confidentiality, data privacy, intellectual property rights, or the terms of use of such tools.
  • AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship requires accountability, the ability to approve submissions and assume responsibility for research integrity, roles that AI cannot fulfil.
  • All Azimuth will continue to update this policy as AI technologies and research ethics evolve, safeguarding the integrity and trustworthiness of scholarly communication.
    AI Policy for reviewers:

  • Generative AI may not be used to analyze or summarize submitted articles or any part of them for the purpose of writing reviews. Peer reviewers must therefore not upload unpublished manuscripts and any associated files into Generative AI tools.

Style:

  • Papers should be written in a considerable level of academic English.
  • Manuscripts should be typed and double-spaced in Times New Roman font, 12 points.
  • Manuscripts should be submitted either as Microsoft Word document file or Open Office Writer file.
  • Each article must be accompanied by an abstract of approximately 200 words.
  • Authors are asked to propose a maximum of 5 keywords.
  • Submissions should not be shorter than 6,000 words, but no longer than 11,000 including footnotes and bibliography.
  • Authors may use any reference style for their initial submission. However, once the manuscript is accepted for publication, the final version must adhere to the 7th edition of APA style. You can access the APA manual through the following link:
    https://www.mendeley.com/guides/apa-citation-guide/

  • The section titles and subtitles in the manuscripts should be numbered. (i.e. 1. Introduction, 2. Title Xxx, 2.1. Subtitle xxx, etc.)
  • If there are any tables, graphs and figures, they have to be included in the submitted main text file. Graphs and figures should be in one of the usual formats, at best in PNG or BMP format; please make sure that the graphics are small enough to fit an A4 page.
  • The tables, graphs and figures should be numbered consecutively for each and should match the same numbering used in the text.

Submission:

You can use above list to carry out a final check of your submission before you send it to the journal for review. Manuscripts should be submitted through the: Submission Form
